Kangaroo Island - der Hafen, die Stadt

Die Känguru-Insel (engl. Kangaroo Island) ist nach Tasmanien und der Melville-Insel die drittgrößte Insel Australiens. Sie liegt 112 Kilometer südwestlich von Adelaide im Gulf Saint Vincent und nicht weit von der Küste und Cape Jervis entfernt an der Spitze der Fleurieu-Halbinsel im Bundesstaat South Australia.Die Känguru-Insel ist nicht nur bei Australiern als Kurzurlaubsziel beliebt. Sehenswert sind unter anderem auch die Seal Bay mit geführten Spaziergängen durch eine Kolonie australischer Seelöwen und die Koalas bei der Ranger Station am Rocky River.Die Koalas haben sich inzwischen so stark vermehrt, dass Verhütungsmittel eingesetzt werden, um eine weiteres Anwachsen der Population zu stoppen, da sonst die Gefahr bestünde, dass nicht ausreichend Nahrung zur Verfügung steht.
