Wo der Daintree-Regenwald auf das Great Barrier Reef trifft, liegt Port Douglas – eine tropische Kleinstadt im äußersten Norden Queenslands. Der Four Mile Beach, gesäumt von Kasuarinenbäumen, beginnt praktisch am Stadtrand. Die Macrossan Street bietet Cafés, Hemingway's Brewery und lokale Restaurants mit Barramundi und Coral-Sea-Meeresfrüchten. Von der Crystalbrook Superyacht Marina starten tägliche Touren zum Außenriff – für Schnorchler ebenso wie für Taucher. Wer landeinwärts zieht, erreicht in 20 Minuten die Mossman Gorge mit einem Ngadiku Dreamtime Walk des Kuku Yalanji-Volkes. Cairns liegt eine Stunde südlich.
