Die Falklandinseln sind eine Inselgruppe im südlichen Atlantik. Sie gehören geographisch zu Südamerika und liegen 600 bis 800 km östlich von Südargentinien und Feuerland. Die Falklandinseln sind ein britisches Überseegebiet. Seit 1833 werden sie von Argentinien beansprucht.Die Falklandinseln bestehen aus etwa 200 Inseln, deren wichtigste Westfalkland und Ostfalkland mit je etwa 6.000 km². Die nördlichen Teile der beiden Hauptinseln sind von Hügelketten überzogen.
