Grímsey liegt 40 Kilometer vor Islands Nordküste – als einziger Teil Islands direkt auf dem Polarkreis. Rund 60 Einwohner teilen die fünf Quadratkilometer mit Hunderttausenden Seevögeln: Papageitaucher nisten in den Kliffkanten, Arktische Seeschwalben kreisen über dem Hafen. Am Polarkreis selbst markieren die „Century Stones" dessen Wanderung durch die Jahrhunderte; das Kunstwerk „Orbis et Globus" macht die geographische Besonderheit sichtbar. Im Café Krían trifft man die Dorfgemeinschaft. Wer möchte, erhält ein Zertifikat über die Überquerung des Polarkreises – auf einem Fleckchen Erde, das stiller kaum sein könnte.
