Ishinomaki, rund 40 Kilometer nordöstlich von Sendai gelegen, vereint Gegenwart und Geschichte auf eigene Weise. Das futuristische Ishinomori Manga Museum auf einer Flussinsel ehrt den Schöpfer von Kamen Rider und Cyborg 009 – Manga-Figuren säumen die gesamte Prachtstraße vom Bahnhof bis zum Museum. Im Minamihama Tsunami Memorial dokumentiert die Stadt den Wiederaufbau nach 2011 mit bemerkenswerter Offenheit. Das Replikaschiff San Juan Bautista erinnert an frühe Pazifiküberquerungen. Vom Hiyoriyama-Park blickt man über Stadt und Küste. Frischer Fisch aus dem Genki Ichiba-Markt rundet jeden Landgang ab.
