Anchorage, was übersetzt soviel bedeutet wie 'Ankerplatz', ist mit knapp 300.000 Einwohnern die wichtigste und größte Stadt Alaskas. Bereits 1915 ließen sich die ersten Siedler in der eher ungemütlichen Gegend nieder; hauptsächlich um den Bau der 'Alaska Railroad zu überwachen.

Heutzutage ist die Stadt hauptsächlich bekannt für seine nahegelegenen Erdölfördergebiete welche viele große Erdölunternehmen (beispielsweise British Petroleum) dazu bewogen haben Niederlassungen in Anchorage zu eröffnen.

Anchorage - der Hafen, die Stadt

Anchorage, was übersetzt soviel bedeutet wie 'Ankerplatz', ist mit knapp 300.000 Einwohnern die wichtigste und größte Stadt Alaskas. Bereits 1915 ließen sich die ersten Siedler in der eher ungemütlichen Gegend nieder; hauptsächlich um den Bau der 'Alaska Railroad zu überwachen.

Heutzutage ist die Stadt hauptsächlich bekannt für seine nahegelegenen Erdölfördergebiete welche viele große Erdölunternehmen (beispielsweise British Petroleum) dazu bewogen haben Niederlassungen in Anchorage zu eröffnen. Anchorage ist eines der wichtigen Ziele bei Alaska Kreuzfahrten

Ein weiterer sehr wichtiger Wirtschaftszweig ist der seit Jahren steigende Tourismus. Wichtige Ziele und Sehenswürdigkeiten in und um Anchorage sind beispielsweise der 'Prince William Sound' sowie der Chugach National Forest. Beide Ausflugsziele sind besonders für naturbegeisterte Kreuzfahrttouristen jederzeit einen Besuch wert.
