Skagway

Der mit nicht einmal 1000 Einwohnern doch recht kleine Ort Skagway in Alasaka erlangte durch seinen Ruf als ertragsreiche Goldgräberstadt einige Aufmerksamkeit, als er 1897 gegründet wurde. Besonders im Klondike-Goldrausch von 1898 wurde er zu einem wichtigen Umschlagplatz für verschiedene Waren.
Geprägt ist der Ort auch heute noch von der Legende über "Soapy Smith", einen damals ortsansässigen Geschäftsmann, welcher sich später als Betrüger entpuppte, nachdem man rausgefunden hatte, dass sein Telegraphenkabel, welches damals den einzigen Kontakt zur Außenwelt herstellen konnte, nach wenigen Kilometern im Schnee endete.

Skagway - der Hafen, die Stadt

Skagway

Der mit nicht einmal 1000 Einwohnern doch recht kleine Ort Skagway in Alasaka erlangte durch seinen Ruf als ertragsreiche Goldgräberstadt einige Aufmerksamkeit, als er 1897 gegründet wurde. Besonders im Klondike-Goldrausch von 1898 wurde er zu einem wichtigen Umschlagplatz für verschiedene Waren.
Geprägt ist der Ort auch heute noch von der Legende über "Soapy Smith", einen damals ortsansässigen Geschäftsmann, welcher sich später als Betrüger entpuppte, nachdem man rausgefunden hatte, dass sein Telegraphenkabel, welches damals den einzigen Kontakt zur Außenwelt herstellen konnte, nach wenigen Kilometern im Schnee endete.

Skagway stellt offiziell den Endpunkt für Kreuzfahrten durch die malerischen alaskischen Fjorde da. Heutzutage gibt es eine Shops und Restaurants entlang des Broadways und der Tourismus ist eindeutig zur neuen Lebensader des Ortes geworden, denn es legen täglich bis zu 5 Kreuzfahrtschiffe in dem kleinen Hafen an.
