Der Doubtful Sound ist einer der größeren Fjorde im neuseeländischen Fiordland-Nationalpark. Da er im Te Wahipounamu-Gebiet liegt, einem ausgewiesenen Naturerbegebiet der UNESCO, ist es nicht verwunderlich, dass der Doubtful Sound, neben dem Milford Sound, zu den bekanntesten und am meisten besuchten Fjorden des Parks zählt. Den Namen bekam der Fjord von James Cook, der während seiner ersten Fahrt durch die Bucht Sorge hatte, dass er auch wieder aus ihr heraussegeln könnte (doubtful/zweifelhaft).

Doubtful Sound - der Hafen, die Stadt

Der Doubtful Sound ist einer der größeren Fjorde im neuseeländischen Fiordland-Nationalpark. Da er im Te Wahipounamu-Gebiet liegt, einem ausgewiesenen Naturerbegebiet der UNESCO, ist es nicht verwunderlich, dass der Doubtful Sound, neben dem Milford Sound, zu den bekanntesten und am meisten besuchten Fjorden des Parks zählt. Den Namen bekam der Fjord von James Cook, der während seiner ersten Fahrt durch die Bucht Sorge hatte, dass er auch wieder aus ihr heraussegeln könnte (doubtful/zweifelhaft).
Bekannt ist der Fjord vor allem für seine vielen Wasserfälle und kleinen Nebenbuchten, die sich nach den oftmals starken Regenfällen massiv mit Wasser füllen. Die höchsten Wasserfälle reichen in Höhen von bis zu 600 Metern.
