Tampa ist die drittgrößte Stadt des Bundesstaates Florida in den USA und zählt mehr als 330.000 Einwohner. Der Wortursprung gründet sich bei dem indigenen Volk der Calusa bei denen Tampa "Feuerstäbe" hieß und sich höchstwahrscheinlich auf die zahlreichen Gewitter in den Sommermonaten bezog. Erst 1849 wurde Tampa, damals mit 185 Einwohnern, gegründet. Eine wichtige Rolle spielte die Stadt während des Sezessionskrieges und während des Spanisch-Amerikanischen Krieges zum Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts. Seit den 50ern des vergangenen Jahrtausends erfreut sich Tampa eines gesunden Bevölkerungszuwachses in allen Schichten.Überzeugen kann die Stadt mit den Vergnügungsvierteln Ybor City, SoHo und den Channel District. In Tampa sind eine Vielzahl an Theatern zu finden. Bekannte Exemplare sind das Gorilla Theatre, das Tampa Theatre und das 1-800-ASK-GARY Ampitheatre. Einen Besuch wert sind weiterhin das Museum of Science and Industry, das Kunstmuseum Tampa Museum of Art und die S.S. American Victory, einem früheren Victory-Schiff aus dem 2. Weltkrieg.
Vom 7,2 Kilometer langen Bayshore Boulevard heißt es, er sei der längste durchgehende Gehweg der Welt.
Der Hafen ist Heimathafen der Carnival Legend und der Carnival Inspiration der Carnival Cruise Line.
