Gisborne ist eine Stadt im Nordosten Neuseelands mit ca. 33.000 Einwohnern.Die Region Gisborne war der erste Landeplatz von Europäern in Neuseeland. 1769 segelte Kapitän James Cook in die Poverty Bay und landete im Oktober an der Mündung des Turanganui River.Aufgrund seiner Nähe zur Datumsgrenze bezeichnet sich der Hikurangi als erster Berg, der die Sonne eines anbrechenden Tages erblickt. In etwa genauso verhält es sich mit der Stadt Gisborne.
