Tauranga - der Hafen, die Stadt

Tauranga

Tauranga ist mit mehr als 100.000 Bewohnern eineder zehn größten Städte Neuseelands. Der Name bedeutet aus dem Maorischen übersetzt soviel wie "sichere Bucht" und ist der sehr geschützten Lage des Naturhafens zu verdanken. Mit einer Jahresdurchschnittstemperatur von fast 15 Grad Celsius ist Tauranga beinahe das ganze Jahr über recht warm.

Wirtschaft

Die Stadt gilt mittlerweile als Ruhesitz für wohlhabendere Neuseeländer sowie als Szenetreffpunkt der einheimischen Surfergemeinschaft.
Die Innenstadt von Tauranga ist für eine Stadt dieser Größe sehr ruhig und nicht übermäßig mit Unternehmen. Es gibt viele kleine Cafes, Bars und Restaurants in denen sich teilweise auch die nationalen Speisen Neuseelands erforschen lassen. Der Hafen jedoch ist durch seine Größe besonders für den Ex- und Import verschiedenster Waren geeignet. Bereits 2011 konnten aber neben dem Gütertransport mehr als 50 Kreuzfahrtschiffe im Hafen von Tauranga beobachtet werden. Viele der Kreuzfahrten nutzen den Hafen als Startpunkt verschiedener Ausflügsmöglichkeiten.

Das heimliche Wappen Neuseelands, die Kiwi, wird besonders im Umland von Tauranga angebaut und für den Export aufbereitet.

Sehenwürdigkeiten

Besonders die aktiveren Kreuzfahrer werden in Tauranga ihre Freude finden. So gibt es einen großen Kletterwald oder eine Anlage für Strandsegler, sogenannte Blokarts. Aber auch Wanderer werden auf ihre Kosten kommen. Ansonsten bietet der Hafen alles was man sich wünschen kann. Es gibt ein vielfältiges Angelangebot, Tauchkurse und Segelstunden oder aber auch das grandiose Schwimmen mit Delfinen.
